Whether you are looking for handcrafted arts, local souvenirs and simply crave a delicious and warming mulled wine with your friends, Frankfurt am Main with its number of different Christmas markets has a lot to offer.
Weihnachtsmarkt Frankfurt Römerberg
The historic city hall of Frankfurt is the Römer which is located on a square called Römerberg. It has been the center of Frankfurt’s Old Town since the High Middle Ages. After the second world war, elaborate reconstructions tried to recreate the square original appearance.
The historic Christmas Market in Frankfurt takes place in the impressive scenery of the Römerberg and Paulsplatz and attracts around 3 million people each year. Its Christmas tree has an unbelievable height and allows the old town to shine festively each night. The Christmas stands are beautifully and creatively decorated and besides the Christmas classics such as tree ornaments, nutcrackers, toys and candles, the Weihnachtsmarkt Frankfurt Römerberg offers a lot of handcrafted art including old and new craft techniques. Also culinary, the market has a lot to offer; regional delicacies and Christmas classics leave no wishing unfulfilled.
Weihnachtsmarkt Thurn & Taxis Palais
If the opening hours of Frankfurt’s main Christmas market are not enough, the market at Thurn & Taxis Palais is a great alternative. Besides the evening opening time until 11 pm, this market only opens its doors on 23rd December 2017. For the fourth time already, the market is taking place in the courtyard of the Thurn & Taxis Palais and it has become an insider’s tip for Christmas market visitors through the years.
Christmas music, atmospheric lighting and flexible opening hours create the perfect environment to enjoy the different culinary delights from waffles, to delicious soups, smoked delicacies, French sandwiches, and various mulled wine stands.
Around 15 Christmas stands will enliven the picturesque square called Paradiesplatz (paradise square) in the heart of Old Sachsenhausen during December.
Beyond the classics such as mulled wine and gingerbread, a broad program is offered. The absolute highlight of the Christmas market, however, is certainly the huge Bembel crib, which will be on display instead of a Christmas tree.
